game interest check + moderation interest
As of this current writing, I am still workshopping a game name.
So, if you're seeing this, you're probably on my plurk list! Now, you might have a few questions about the game itself, so allow me to explain further more information about the game itself below.
What exactly is this game?
This is currently a long term, private, invite-only game ran by myself that is expected to span from about 6 months to 2 years, depending on various factors. The game itself is based primarily on two visual novels from Ryukishi07: Iwaihime and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. There will also be elements from various other horror and isekai canons as well, but those two are at the forefront.
The game itself is set in a modern day city, where a god has summoned people from various worlds in an attempt to stop a curse from fully taking over the city, and then the world. This god has also granted each person a single boon: the ability to return from the dead after the world has 'ended'.
However, this boon comes with a cost: memories. Memories of a past life are wiped clean... or are they? There will be chances when characters can get senses of deja vu, that they've done all of this before and perhaps... there just might even be a chance to recall all of those past lives. Maybe the information you find could be useful in defeating this curse and going home.
What kind of game is this?
It's a timeloop, mystery, horror game. Timeloops and mysteries will be at the forefront, while there will also be horror elements. In terms of the 'horror' elements there will be both psychological horror as well as body horror. If you are not interested in these, this might not be the game for you. As a note, however: the application will have you fill in an 'opt out' form: basically, any horrors or squicks that you would prefer for us to not touch your characters with will be avoided.
The main mystery of the game is to find out what the 'curse' is and find a way to stop it permanently.
So, timeloops. Talk to me more about those.
Each loop will last for about 2-3 months each. At the end of the loop, there will be a 'reset'. I'm still working out the kinks regarding the system, but more than likely when the reset does happen, there will be an announcement that speaks on it, as there might be some things that are retained or lost between loops.
What kinds of events will there be?
This is very much still a work in progress, but what I'm thinking is having 'nightmare' events, where characters get stuck in nightmare-ish worlds that are meant to target the characters' fears and anxieties; there will also be more lighthearted events in order to balance things out.
What about death?
Character death is 'permanent'. Basically, when a character dies in the loop, they will be stuck in the 'nightmare' world. This means that they will not be able to interact with those in the 'real' world, they can use this chance to investigate the nightmare world a little more. Characters will also be able to force themselves into the 'nightmare' world once that gets announced for the month.
Once the loop resets, they'll come back to life. It's possible that dying might give them a boon or a curse.
How are applications and activity check going to work?
Applications will be fairly standard with a history and personality section, abilities, regains, and a list of 'nos' that you would not want your character to experience horror-wise.
Activity will more than likely be 10 comments a month.
What characters will be acceptable?
Canon and original characters will be applicable, as well as characters from the series that this game is based off of. Canon AUs will also be applicable and duplicates will be taken in a case-by-case basis. Characters that have died in their canon are applicable but they will have a corpeal body in game. Characters will also keep their abilities, although too powerful abilities will be watered down; this will be stated in application acceptances as necessary.
Game start?
I currently have no current estimate, but depending on the interest and if I can get mods on board, my ETA is about summer-ish, maybe earlier depending on how much we can get done.
Anything else?
This is still very much a work in progress, but if anybody has any immediate questions, feel free to bring it up in your comment here or hit me up on plurk at
